WHAT AGE GROUP IS ECCE SCHEME FOR?

Children start in our ECCE Montessori scheme Mulhuddart from 2 years and 8 months up to 5 years of age. Our Montessori runs from 8:30 am to 1 pm Monday to Friday. Children attending for full-time care are automatically offered a place in our Montessori.

HOW DOES THE ECCE MONTESSORI SCHEME SUPPLEMENT WORK?

The Early Childhood Care and Education Scheme (ECCE) is a universal childcare programme with the stated objective of providing children with their first formal experience of early learning.

The ECCE programme provides for 3 hours per day, 5 days per week over 38 weeks per year. At Tír na nÓg Childcare and Montessori we run our Montessori ECCE classes for 4 ½ hours per day, 5 days per week for 43 weeks per year, from September to June.

Therefore, the ECCE payment we receive for your child is a supplement of the fee we charge. Fees are calculated on a monthly basis and are payable for 10 months of the year from September to June.

As we open throughout July and August too, and run a Summer Camp for children wishing to attend during the summer months If you wish to avail of the ECCE programme you must complete the necessary forms which we provide you with.

We make the application on behalf of your child. Once the registration is accepted, we receive the supplement directly.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS ELIGIBLE FOR CCSP/NCS?

ECCE Montessori Scheme Mulhuddart

If your child is eligible for a targeted payment on CCSP, and the payment due is higher than the ECCE supplement, we will apply for it on your behalf, in the same way as we apply for ECCE.

Your child will attend the ECCE Montessori under the CCSP payment. For more information on CCSP CCSP Bands The National Childcare scheme will launch in October 2019. The National Childcare Scheme will provide financial support for parents, towards the cost of childcare.

It will provide a system from which both universal and targeted subsidies can be provided towards the cost of childcare. For more information on NCS https://www.dcya.gov.ie/cat/EN/National-ChildcareScheme-(NCS)/212.htm

WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF THE ECCE MONTESSORI PROGRAMME?

The objective of the ECCE Montessori programme is to provide a safe, exciting learning environment, that is reinforced with love, encouragement and praise.

We use the Montessori method of teaching. Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed, child led activities, hands on learning and collaborative play.

In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom environment and the room leader offer age-appropriate learning experiences to guide the process. Our teaching is based around the ideas of Aistear and upon the principles of Síolta.

WHAT IS AISTEAR AND SÍOLTA?

Aistear is the early childhood curriculum framework for all children from birth to six years. The framework uses four interconnected themes to describe the content of children’s learning and development: Well-being, Identity & Belonging, Communicating and Exploring & Thinking.

Síolta is a quality assurance programme that enhances the quality of early childhood experiences for children aged from birth to six years. This year we have introduced Healthy Ireland Smart Start to our creche. This is a pre-school health promotion programme led by the HSE, to ensure children in pre-school settings are supported to adopt healthy lifestyle behaviours in early childhood.

The programme consists of six units: Health Promotion, Emotional Well-being, Physical Activity, Nutrition, Oral Health, Health & Safety.

HOW WILL I KNOW HOW MY CHILD IS GETTING ON?

We understand the importance of working in partnership with parents and for that reason we encourage parents to be involved in your child’s learning experience.

Daily verbal reports are communicated to parents and written observations are carried out on each child every term; or more often if necessary. Appointments are encouraged, between parents and your child’s lead teacher, at least once per term. If parent’s have a worry or concern meetings with key workers and management will be arranged at short notice.

We have a Facebook Profile (not a business page which is public). We only accept current parents and staff as friends. If you send us a friend request, we will post photos and short videos of your child’s daily activities. You cannot share these posts as our privacy setting is tight. Once a child leaves our creche we ‘unfriend’ the parent instantly.

Your child will receive an End Of Year book which contains photos and samples of your child’s work and art. Staff keep records of children’s activities and progress in a floor book which parents are welcome to view.

DISCRIBE AN AVERAGE DAY IN ECCE MONTESSORI

Children begin to arrive for ECCE Montessori from 8:30 am and enjoy free-play until class time begins at 9 am. During the morning period, activities include using the specialized Montessori equipment, designed to aid learning in the areas of sensorial, numerical, language, area and volume, practical life skills and environmental studies.

Children have a snack at 11 am, which parents provide. As we promote healthy eating, parents are encouraged to send a well-balanced, nutritious snack, and are provided with suggestions and ideas for child friendly healthy snacks.

After snack, children part-take in a variety of activities including yoga, dance, imaginary and role play, construction, nature walks, art & crafts and seasonal class projects. All Montessori classes have outdoor playtime (weather permitting).

The outdoors is one of the best learning environments for young children, providing opportunities for play, movement, communication and sensory experience on a much greater scale than indoors. Research also shows that children who play outdoors regularly are less likely to be sick, stressed, anxious and are more adaptable to life’s unpredictable turns.

In both Tír na nÓg Huntstown and Tír na nÓg Hartstown we have created inviting, interesting gardens, with many opportunities to explore and discover. Our ground surface is suitable for all weathers and is safe and hygienically clean.

We encourage parents to send warm outdoor clothing for children as only very wet weather will keep us indoors. We are very lucky that both creches are located within a safe walking route from Hartstown park. Children are regularly taken to the park on nature and discovery walks. Parents are asked to pre-sign an outings permission form, and extra staff accompany the troops. We finish our morning with circle time.

During circle time children discuss the mornings events and tell us their news or plans. We also have storytelling, singing, and it is a valuable time for children to take instruction in social skills and practical life skills.

Children who attend for Montessori only will then get ready for home time, while children remaining for the afternoon have a short rest followed by a fruit snack and further activities.

HOW MANY CHILDREN WILL BE IN MY CHILD’S CLASS?

Our Montessori groups are divided into Junior Montessori and Pre-school Montessori groups. Children start in Junior Montessori at 2 years and 8 months. We take a maximum of 8 children in this age group. In our Pre-school Montessori rooms we have between 9 and 11 children.

While your child may attend Montessori for two or three years be assured that they will continue to develop and progress, will face new challenges and learning experiences and will grow emotionally, socially and academically.

OUR GOAL FOR ECCE MONTESSORI CHILDREN

Our goal for the Montessori children is to promote independence, self-regulating behaviour, social awareness, personal self-care, a desire to learn and a confident attitude towards starting Big School.
